Shalom Circle
Mission
Statement
"Forgiven and Freed by God
in Jesus Christ, and
empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study
to support the mission of the church, worldwide
to work for justice and peace
to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens
the Presbyterian
Church (USA) and witness the promise of God's
Kingdom." Shalom
Circle does NOT require dues. The members of the group
donate what they can. The women also hold a garage sale at
the time of the Town-Wide Yard Sale in Jonesborough in
May.
The monies received from
this effort and from
other such projects including the Christmas Dinner and Auction (at
which we really have a "Fun Time" with Larry Garst and Jim Cash as our
auctioneers!) are used for projects that Shalom Circle does not always
make known --they just help. Some of the help lately has
included helping to buy new gowns for the children's choir; to acquire
a sturdy cupboard for Cherry for her music groups storage; to present
the reception for Ms Lyn Moorehouse as she leaves here for her new
home; to assist in help with groups such as Grandfather Home, the
River, Second Harvest, etc. And, of course, our
biggest undertaking was the cookbook! We are very proud of
the cookbook as it was truly a "labor of love" and we are honored to
have so many of Sylvia Aldridge's recipes in the cookbook.
The
Circle meets the first Sat of every month, with "time off" for the
summer months, at 10 am at the Fellowship Hall. The
Circle is chaired by Jean Soergel. We have several members at
this time but would truly welcome more new members to assist in the
Mission.
